After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response: My first impression of McCandless was of a carefree traveler, but upon further insight, it seemed like he cared a lot -- about his past in particular. McCandless did everything he could -- burned money, ditched his belongings and old way of life -- to start a new one. I don't think he fully considered the severity of the wilderness however. This is due to the inconsiderate and unwise packing and improper gear.

Summary: Today we read chapter one of "Into the Wild"

Reflection: Today I learned information about a real story and how dumb people can be.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

As you gathered sources, you were expected to find multiple perspectives on your topic. What differences did you notice between your sources? Explain how these differences helped you better understand the complexity of your issue.

Describe a time when you took a hiatus from something important. What led to the break, and how did it impact you?
