How does watching the film version of Into the Wild change or deepen your understanding of Chris McCandless compared to reading the book? In your response, explain one key difference in how his character or experiences are presented, and connect this to a time when seeing something visually changed your understanding of a situation.

Prompt Response:  The film has truly helped me to visualize the plot, better than the actual story. I am a visual learner, so seeing the story unfold rather than reading about it helps me to better comprehend the setting and sequence of events that take place within the story. Though the sequence is the same, it seems as if Chris is depicted to be a bit more friendly and outgoing than in the book. I feel like he had greater connections with people and he was just a friendlier person overall. Summary: Today we watched a little bit of "Into the Wild" Reflection:  Today I learned how books and movies can be similar, yet so different.

Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.

Prompt Response:  The connection that me and my friend Stella have is truly something unique that has been built over years of knowing her. She is truly my best friend and with her, I feel like I'm complete and I have room to fully be myself. I feel like we understand each other in every kind of way -- as if she has the power of 1,000 words in one look.  Summary: Today we read and analyzed chapter 13 of "Into the Wild". Reflection:  Today I learned how much I value my friendhsip.

Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

Prompt Response:  As I have gotten older, I have been able to see the effort and care that my dad puts into me and my family. He has made so many sacrifices over the years and it truly means a lot to me that I've been able to see this as I've gotten older. I am very appreciative of his efforts, and he inspires much of my own. Summary: Today we read a chapter of Into the Wild. Reflection:  Today I learned how appreciative I am of my dad's efforts  (SIDE NOTE: I promise I published this on time but I don't think it went through because there were a lot of internet issues this day)

Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt Response:  I was not in class today Summary: Reflection:

How do you think others would describe your personality? In what ways might their perception differ from how you see yourself?

Prompt Response:   I think others would describe me as kind. I always try to be nice to others and I try to stay positive in most scenarios. I feel like I see myself as a lot of emotions, but I like to think I see myself as kind. Summary: Today we did a vocabulary assignment and read and assessed chapter 12 of Into the Wild. Reflection:  Today I learned how I see myself.

Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

Prompt Response:  In my personal opinion, chapter 9 stood out to me the most. I think this stood out to me because it was mostly a collection of different explorers and travelers that decided to do the same thing Alex did, many with the same motivations. The other chapters were mainly focused around McCandless or the narrator, so this one stood out to me the most. Summary:  Today we took a test on chapters 1-9 of Into the Wild. Reflection:  Today I learned things without a consistent pattern stick out to me the most.

Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Prompt Response:  Right now, success for me is seeing results. This applies anywhere -- whether that be at the gym, with my grades, and cleaning at home. I feel I can only be successful when I see what my hard work has brought out and come to.  Summary: Today we did a connections assignment, and another assignment. Reflection: Today I learned what connections I had with the book.

Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

Prompt Response:  During a group project, I chose to work by myself because there was an uneven number of people in the class. Ultimately, it was much better than working in a group because I got the chance to do things the way I wanted to, and set everything up according to my own standards. In the end, I ended up getting a very good grade, so I think it ultimately, it was worth it. Summary: Today we did a review of all of the chapters of Into the Wild. Reflection:  Today I learned that independence is okay, as long as you are cautious and mindful.

Choose a vocabulary word from Lesson 10 that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

Prompt Response:  A word that resonated with me personally was 'luminous'. I feel like I myself am very luminous, with my bright personality. I always try to stay positive and I also encourage others to do the same. In my opinion, there is nothing bad that comes from good. Summary: Today we did exercises one and three from the lesson 10 vocabulary. Reflection:  Today I learned some new vocabulary words.

For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

Prompt Response:  My ideal SAT score would be anything at or above a 1350. UGA, the college I am most intrigued with, requires a minimum score of 1300-1450 for first-year applicants. I like this school because it has a very good student-campus life, and the scenery is great. I also know a good handful of people who go there, so fitting in and gaining connections would be an easy task. Another school that I am interested in is Georgia Southern. Both of my parents went there, and it's only an hour away from one of my favorite beaches -- Tybee Island. Summary:  Today I was absent. Reflection:  Today I learned it is better to not be so nervous in intense situations, because it will ultimately improve your personal ability.

Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

Prompt Response:  Every year after we "fall back" and lose an hour, I find myself unable to wait until we can "spring forward" again. I think my mood improves dramatically when there is more sunlight present. With this, my productivity also increases and I feel it is much easier to get work done. Though I might be losing an hour of sleep, I am gaining a positive mood so the risk is small compared to the great reward. Summary: Today, we read chapter 6 of 'Into the Wild' Reflection:  Today I learned how my surroundings affect my mood.

In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

Prompt Response:  The French artist Henry Matisse inspired much of my own artwork. He gave me the ability to see the bigger picture from simpler objects and shapes. He also inspired me to move more creatively and use more of my own imagination. I used to create images from reference, but now I am trying to expand my creative horizons by creating images from my mind. Summary: Today we read chapter 5 of into the wild and answered questions about it. Reflection:  Today I learned how stubbornness can be harmful.

In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up many of his possessions in pursuit of freedom and meaningful experiences. If you had to simplify your life and keep only a few important possessions, what would you keep and why? What would be hardest to leave behind?

Prompt Response:  If I could bring people with me, I would bring along the people that mean the most to me. I think if I went on a journey into the woods strictly by myself, I would go crazy. I would also have no one to share my experiences with and no one to relate to with things that I went through during my expedition.  Summary:  Today we read chapter four of "Into the Wild" Reflection:  Today I learned how dependent I am on others.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response:  Often times, I find myself trapped in a strict routine. I get in ready for bed at a certain time so I can be in bed at another and wake up at the right time. Last year, I was very strict about my bedtime rituals that I left myself no room for relaxation. I became paranoid and hyper-attentive to the time to the point where I gave myself anxiety, thinking if I didn't do everything the way I was supposed to things would go South in an instant. However, I am now in dual enrollment, so I can go to sleep whenever I want (given I don't have class early the next morning). This has given me much more freedom to do the things I want to do before bed without fear of messing up. Summary: Today we read chapters 2 and 3 of "Into the Wild" Reflection:  Today I learned it's okay to leave behind something if it causes you harm or discomfort.

After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response:  My first impression of McCandless was of a carefree traveler, but upon further insight, it seemed like he cared a lot -- about his past in particular. McCandless did everything he could -- burned money, ditched his belongings and old way of life -- to start a new one. I don't think he fully considered the severity of the wilderness however. This is due to the inconsiderate and unwise packing and improper gear. Summary: Today we read chapter one of "Into the Wild" Reflection:  Today I learned information about a real story and how dumb people can be.

Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Prompt Response:  I think the easiest word for me to comprehend was the word "blithe". In my head, I associated it with "bliss", so it made more sense as they both have a correlating meaning. In my opinion, the term "goad" was the hardest to understand, as I had never heard it before and I could not compare it to any other words in my head with a similar sound and meaning. This is what made this word in particular difficult to comrpehend. Summary: Today we reviewed lesson 9's vocabulary Reflection:  Today I learned new vocabulary.
