Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response:  I used to be very scared of a ride at six flags called acrophobia. When I was younger, me and my dad used to go to six flags all the time. I vividly remember seeing this ride called "acrophobia". I asked my dad to ride it and he asked me if I was sure, because if I did, I couldn't back out. I decided that the ride wasn't that bad and I got in line. Looking up and watching the ride slowly rise before free-falling made it surreal. I began to overthink and second-guess my decision. The ride came back down in a whoosh and I walked up to my sweet. The ride started up and I felt my body slowly get lifted into the air. Once we were at the top, the seats tilted forward and I couldn't help but look at the ground, far down beneath my feet. I took a deep breath and began to free fall. I felt weightless and and I actually ended up enjoying the ride. Summary: Today we wrote down different types of claims. Review:  Today I learned that I could differentiate ...

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response:  I am a Christian and many speculate or criticize my beliefs because of misinformation or the other people. However, even though the people make up the religion, the religion is not based off of the people. That's what I find myself arguing with society over. I feel like Christians have a bad rep, but it's not because of the religion, but rather a select group in it. Many things people do go against the religion, which causes people to have a bad look towards Christians. Summary:  Today in class we took more notes on Arguments and the three types of claims. Then, we did a worksheet about the three types of claims. Review:  Today I learned that there are 3 main types of claims.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response:  A truth that I was and still am afraid to accept is that change is inevitable. It makes up our daily life and without it, we wouldn't be able to truly live. I believe that change can be good or bad, but more importantly, it can help us grow and mature into the people we need to be.  Summary:  Today in class, we took notes on arguments Review:  Today I learned that ethos, pathos, and logos are all a part in an effective argument.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  A time when I was judged unfairly is when I was in an art competition. I spend days working on a piece that I poured my heart out on, and I believed fully that it was my best piece. I was very excited and relieved that I had gotten my work done just in time for submission. On the day of the competition, the judge's daughter was competing. I immediately knew that the judging could be biased, but I held my head high and hoped for the best. At the end of the competition, I reviewed the votes, just to find my piece lost to another. When I viewed the piece that placed first, I instantly became enraged. I had lost to a red dot on a blank white canvas.  Summary:  Today in class we did a common lit assignment Review: Today I learned a new way to view fear.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response:  I think the thing that I would be most interested to learn about would be their music. I love music and I spend a lot of time listening to it, so I think it would be cool to learn about that for the first time. I also love finding new music and different rhythms and beats. Summary: Today, we discussed different methods of brainstorming before writing an essay Review: Today I learned how many things people think are overrated.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Prompt Response:  The poem that caught my attention was Judah Luzier's poem about life. I have never thought that life could be seen as a car and I loved how he was very confident with his presentation. He spoke very loud and clear, which made his presentation easy to hear. From his poem, I learned how people can have such unique and different views on things that we all experience; such as life. Review:  Today in class, we presented our poem posters Summary:  Today I learned how many unique and creative ideas could come from one assignment.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Prompt Response:  When I felt like an interloper, it made me feel very distant and negative towards everyone in my life. I had negative relations with everyone and I did not feel very pleasant. I was not a good time. Summary:  Today in class we did a common lit  Review:  Today I learned that some good can come out of a vulnerable situation.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response:  In my personal opinion, I think that learning with hands-on experience is the most beneficial to my understanding of a topic. I am a visual learner, so hands-on experiences help me to visualize and work with what's in front of me, while also gaining knowledge on the subject. Summary:  Today in class, we finished writing and revising our poems and stated working on our poem posters. Review: Today in class I learned how to make an animated character in adobe express.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt Response : The part that I enjoy most about writing poems is the creativity of it. I like how poems can have many different topics and themes, and there is no limit to what you can imagine and write about. I also like how you can write a poem on your own accord, not following any guidelines. Summary:  Today in class, we started working to create our own poems. Review:  Today I learned that I have a lot of creative freedom in this class.

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

Prompt Response:  One thing that I did that felt very daring was going cliff jumping into a lake. I didn't know how deep the water was and I didn't know what waited for me at the bottom but I decided to just jump. I still go to that same spot about every summer, sometimes even multiple times in a summer and I jump off. Summary : Today in class we reviewed a poem that compared an acrobat to a poet. Review:  Today I learned how similar acrobats and poets are.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Prompt Response:  I think to describe my life right now, I would use the song Old Virginia by America. I would choose this one because I feel like I am very stressed out due to school and a new job that I need to take time to relax every now and then. The song "Old Virginia" is a mirror of my situation and the song itself is very relaxed. Summary:  Today in class we finished doing our quote, analysis, topic, theme, and conflict in illuminate for 10 of Emily Dickinson's poems. Review:  Today I learned that we did not have to do the poem analysis for all 20 poems.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Prompt Response:  I feel that if I had to write a poem about my life, it would contain many aspects of change. It would be under the topic of change, but it would hold many aspects of new beginnings and opportunities. This is due to a lot of things that have happened in my life and experiences that have shaped me into the person that I am today. Sometimes even though it’s hard to see at the time, change can often be good and it builds you up and shapes you into the person you might not want to be, but the person you need to be.  Summary: Today in class, we analyzed poems by Emily Dickerson and put them into categories, and found the theme and conflict of them. Reflection:  Today I learned how diverse Emily Dickinson’s poems can be just from one line.

How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response:  This class has been going very good so far. I feel like I'm staying on track with my assignments easily and I like how introspective it is. Summary:  Today in class, we analyzed three of Emily Dickinson's poems. Review:  Today I learned that there are so many things that you can feel after death.

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.

Prompt Response:  One thing that makes me different from other people is I am me. In my opinion, everyone is their own person and no matter how some may hide it, we are all unique in our own ways. We have our own unique experiences and lives that shape how we see things, how we act, and how we are seen to others. Summary:  Today in class, we finished our heart pages. Review: I learned that I like to finish my work before it's due rather than the actual due date.
