Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

Prompt Response:  The Metaphor I would use to describe my mind would be a river. I would use this because I feel like my mind is always moving; making decisions, thinking, and planning. I like to think that my thoughts are like animals that inhabit the river, because some are very calm and mellow, sitting at the bottom of the water, while some are racing against the current near the surface.  Summary:  Today in class, we read and analyzed a poem, and started on an art project. Review:  Today, I learned how many symbolic items Emily Dickens on had in her poetry to describe something as simple as loosing your mind.

Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

Prompt Response:  I have always wanted to travel to Europe. I feel that the scenery is very beautiful, and I admire the diverse culture and foods that it holds. I also know a bit of French, so I could put it into practice if I ever visit France. I would like to try some of the food from Italy, and see some of the beautiful beaches in Greece.  Summary:  Today in class, we finished up our origin Myth Poster presentations, and we took some notes on Emily Dickens. Review:  Today I learned from Emily Dickens that being different is okay.

Describe something you will never fully understand

Prompt Response: Something I will never understand is a language, or just talking in general. It confounds me how I could make sounds with my mouth and other people can understand my thoughts or future actions. I don't know how talking even came about or how we as a people discovered that form of communication and decided that it should be the way of sharing thoughts and ideas. Summary : Today in class, we presented our origin Myth posters. Response:  Today, I learned that so many ideas and concepts can come from one prompt or assignment.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:  I always wish I had more time. I feel like there is never enough time in the span of my entire life to do everything that I want to do. I want to travel and meet new people and experience new things, but I feel that I will always be to busy with school or a job and I'll have to wait until I am too old to do the things that I enjoy, since that will be the only time when I can do it. I also with that I had more time with the people I care about. Time is so limited on this earth, and I want to make sure I can enjoy it while I still have it. Summary: Today in class, I finished my origin Myth Poster and I turned it in.  Reflection:  Today in class, I learned about everything that was discussed in the Lakeside news.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response:  I think the most creative thing I've ever made was an origami spider Lily. It took 7 hours to make each individual flower, gorilla glue them together, and create the stems stretching out from the center. I think it stands out as my best work not only because it took me so long, but because I was able to detach myself from it, and gift it to someone that I deeply care about.  Summary: Today in class, we finished our Origin myths and started making our posters for them. These posters include a summary, characters, a title, and other creative elements. Review:  Today I learned about the app adobe express. I learned that there are many interesting tools that you can use to express creativity.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response:  One of the questions that I always find myself asking is where did the pyramids come from? Some people day that they were built by people, but doing further reasearch, I have found that the stones were so precisely cut and weighed more than any person or persons could carry. Tying into my next question is "what kind of technology did the ancient egyptians have?" I ponder on this question because in order to cut those stones that precicley, you have to have some kind of advanced super technology, that even today, we don't have.  Summary:  Today in class, we started writing our own origin myth stories. We outlined a structure with the characters we wanted, the setting, the plot, and the series of events that we could follow. Reflection:  Today, I learned that I can make a very interesting story if I concentrate on what I want in my story, who the story is about, and essencially follow a structure that contains the elements of my desired story.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response:  When I was younger, my mom always made me go to the store with her. We would pick up groceries for the week, as well as some school snacks. One day, she decided that I was old enough to send me to the other side of the store to pick up some frozen items. I made a list in my mind and walked as fast as I could to the other end of the store. I was holding more things than my arms could carry at the time and I was on my way to meet my mom back at the cereal isle. However, things took a turn when I headed towards the isle and didn't see my mom. I spent a total of 10 minutes franticlly searching for her before I got an employee. She called for my mom on the overhead speakers and I was finally reunited with my mom. Summary: Today in class, we presented our projects on the short native american story "The Jelous Father".  Reflection:  Today I learned that everyone had an individual part to research about the story and base their project on that.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response : This week, I've been able to analyze the speed and the difficulty of this class. I had to adjust how I think and how I work to form and fit to this class. This meant thinking ahead and working quicker, as well as working ahead. This allowed me to move with the class and not get left behind. Summary:  Today in class, we did an assessment to finish our topic of origin myths on illuminate. This was to see how much we had learned about origin myths. Review:  Today, I learned that there is never just one answer that could be seen as correct, and that there is typically a few very wrong ones but a one semi-correct.

Olivia's English Blog: Jelousy and relationships

Prompt Response: When I was younger, I used to be very good friends with this girl. We used to hang out every single day after school and we would tell each other everything. After a little while, I began to notice some of her habits. One of which was when she would steal some of the things I would say or retell a joke that I told and pass it off as her own. This used to make me very mad and I decided that I didn't want this to keep happening so I distanced myself from her. Over time, we both matured and we're good friends as of now. I've seen Jelousy do much worse in relationships so I like to consider myself lucky. Summary: Today in class we started on a project about a short Native American story about a boy with a Jelous father. There are so many elements to the story and project. Review:  Today, I learned that some native American stories have to be reread a few times to understand the theme or even what is going on in the story.

Olivia English blog: A meaningful object

Prompt Response: An object that is meaningful to me is my water bottle. I’ve had this same exact bottle since I’ve been in the third grade. The many dents and scratches it holds on the surface show all of the places it’s been. Where it’s been hit, how deep the dent is is, and how much paint is chipped is all a matter of memory and experience. Even today, I still carry around the same water bottle and while some may call it damaged, I call it loved.  Summary: Today in class we read a short story titled “Navajo creation”. This story is a piece of Native American literature that explores themes of respect and disrespect, as well as creation and destruction. Reflection: I learned that there is another way of thinking how the world came to be through this origin myth.

A time I felt connected to nature

Prompt response:  When I was younger, me and my dad used to go hiking on a trail behind our house. We would take a trail down to the Chattahoochee River and sit on a big rock as we are saltiness and watched the River. Feeling the sun my skin and surrounding myself with the sounds of nature made me feel very connected and grounded with the earth. Sometimes, I like to sit outside and pretend I’m back on that rock sunbathing. Summary:  Today in class, we discussed Native American literature. We also discussed the differences form myths, themes, and religion. Reflection;  Today I learned that Native American literature had many themes and that they are not a dying culture.
